Setting The National Standard In Pet Transport

Protecting animals in transit through certification

and professional standards.

MISSION STATEMENT

The National Pet Transport Association (NPTA) exists to protect animals in transit by advancing professional pet transportation standards centered on safety, humane care, ethics, and professionalism. We certify ground and air transporters who demonstrate a clear commitment to responsible animal care and handling.

OBJECTIVES

Through certification, education, and higher industry standards, NPTA recognizes professional pet transporters and air nannies who demonstrate a commitment to safe practices and compliance with current USDA APHIS animal transportation requirements.

Our goal is to build greater trust among pet owners, transporters, rescues, breeders, and animal-care organizations across the industry—so every animal travels in safe, responsible, and trusted hands.

Why National Standards Matter

Pet transportation continues to grow but safety practices and legal requirements can vary widely. Clear professional standards help protect animals, guide transporters, and give pet owners greater confidence.

NPTA advances safer transportation through education, certification, ethical standards, and practical resources based on applicable regulations and recognized animal-care guidance.

Certified Transporters

NPTA-certified transporters have studied and past an exam full of transport regulations, ethics questions, and real-world scenarios. They know what to do and when to stay in communication with the pet owners. They stay up to date on continuing changes in transit news and regulations with two-year refresher courses.
